About Royanne
I've been living full-time in a van or RV since 2009, long before #vanlife was a hashtag. There was no aesthetic to chase back then, no Instagram playbook to follow. I just made a decision to live differently, and I never looked back.
I'm Royanne Powell, a British Columbia-based entrepreneur and the person behind every post, photo, and product recommendation on this site.
missadVANture started because I kept getting the same questions:
-
What solar setup do you actually use?
-
How do you manage full-time off-grid living?
-
What gear is worth the money?
This blog is my answer. Honest, experience-based, and built for people who are serious about the lifestyle, not just dreaming about it.
Who I Am Off the Road
My background is equal parts hustle and hospitality.
I spent years managing restaurants, bars, and hospitality operations across Vancouver Island, where I learned early that the difference between a good experience and a great one is always the details.
From there, I moved into wine sales, building relationships with buyers across the island, before eventually owning and operating my own retail boutique.
Along the way:
-
I became a certified yoga instructor
-
Developed a deep love for natural skincare (yes, I make my own products)
-
Earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a 4.3 GPA
I completed my degree fully online, fully independently, while living on the road.
Discipline isn’t something I talk about. It’s something I live.
Why This Site Exists
There is a lot of van life content on the internet. Most of it is beautiful. A lot of it is vague.
Very little of it comes from someone who has been doing this as a full-time lifestyle for nearly two decades, solo, as a woman, across all seasons and all kinds of rigs.
That’s the gap missadVANture fills.
When I review a solar panel or write about off-grid power, it’s because I’ve used it, tested it, and formed an honest opinion. I’m not staging content. I’m showing you what my actual life looks like.
-
The setup that works
-
The gear I’d buy again
-
The stuff I’d skip
